Emergency Overview: Corrosive to skin eyes and mucous membranes. May form boron oxides on ingestion, large amounts causing boron poisoning resulting in depression of circulation, vomiting, diarrhea, shock, and coma.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Ingestion, inhalation, skin and eyes.
Eye Contact: Causes burns to the eyes.
Skin Contact: Causes burning and dryness of the skin and skin rash.
Inhalation: Corrosive to nose, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract.
Ingestion: May be toxic by ingestion. High doses may cause boron poisoning: convulsions, cyanosis, coma and death.
Acute Health Effects: Corrosive to eyes and respiratory tract. High doses of some boron compounds may cause tremors, convulsions, cyanosos, coma and death.
Chronic Health Effects: Repeated ingestion of some boron compounds may cause dryness of mucous membranes, anorexia, vomiting, mild diarrhea, skin rash, and low blood cell count. Kidney damage may occur.

Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
