Strem is proud to have participated in the Newburyport High School STEM Career Expo last month. Our Senior Chemist, Dr. Al Barney resided on the panel for this event along with other professionals in STEM related fields.
This event was originally launched by two Newburyport High School seniors to help educate their peers about the various STEM related career paths that they can follow. Students from Newburyport High and other regional schools were invited to take part in this panel discussion with renowned professionals in STEM career areas. Each speaker discussed topics such as their educational background, why they chose their career and what they enjoyed most about their profession. This form of open discussion about real-world experiences allowed the students to gain more first-hand knowledge about career paths. Knowledge which could very useful as they continue their education and make decisions about their own professional goals.
Dr. Al Barney is always happy to participate in local educational programs. He has visited local elementary and middle schools to give demonstrations about chemistry to spark children’s interest in the sciences at a young age. This expo was especially interesting since it involved inspiring students at such an integral part of their lives. We hope that Al and the other panelists were able to reach the minds of those involved and look forward to future events that combine our love for science and education.
