SECTION 3: Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview: Corrosive to eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. This compound may cause fluoride poisoning causing vomiting and weakness. Boron affects the CNS causing vomiting, diarrhea, shock and coma.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Ingestion, inhalation, skin and eyes.
Eye Contact: Corrosive to eyes.
Skin Contact: Causes burns to the skin.
Inhalation: Corrosive to the nose, mucous membranes and respiratory tract.
Ingestion: If ingested this compound may cause fluoride poisoning by reducing cellular calcium function.
Acute Health Effects: Fluoride poisoning may cause nausea, vomiting, weakness, coma, and respiratory paralysis. Corrosive hydrofluoric acid may be generated at high temperature, or in strong acid or be present as a trace impurity. Causes burns to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract.
Chronic Health Effects: Chronic fluoride poisoning can cause severe bone changes, loss of weight, and dental defects. Repeated ingestion of boron containing compounds may cause dryness of mucous membranes, anorexia, vomiting, mild diarrhea, skin rash, kidney damage and low blood cell count.

SECTION 4: First Aid Measures
Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
