Emergency Overview: Harmful if swallowed. Reacts with moisture in body tissue releasing heat that causes burns to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Vapor can cause drowsiness and unconsciousness.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Ingestion, inhalation
Eye Contact: Causes burns to the eyes.
Skin Contact: Causes moderate to severe irritation or burns to the skin. Repeated exposure to skin causes defatting and dermatitis.
Inhalation: Inhalation of vapor causes coughing, chest pains, nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and unconsciousness.
Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed.
Acute Health Effects: Inhalation of vapor induces drowsiness, and may cause coughing, chest pains, difficulty in breathing, nausea, dizziness, headache and unconsciousness. Skin and eye contact can result in thermal burns.
Chronic Health Effects: (For tetrahydrofuran) Tumorigen, carcinogen (liver) by RTECS criteria, mutagen, Reproductive Effector.

SECTION 4: First Aid Measures
Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water for at least 10-15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Do not Induce vomiting unless directed by medical personnel.
