Emergency Overview: Irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Material hydrolyzes in contact with moisture releasing hydroiodic acid and, under some conditions, hydrogen iodide vapors.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Ingestion, inhalation, skin, eyes
Eye Contact: Causes severe irritation to the eyes.
Skin Contact: Causes severe irritation of the skin May cause redness, pain, itching, pimples, boils, hives and blisters.
Inhalation: Forms hydroiodic acid in the presence of moisture. Inhalation of vapors leads to irritation of the respiratory tract.
Ingestion: Severe irritation of the Gastrointestinal system may occur.
Acute Health Effects: Irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. May cause eye, skin burns, dyspnea (breathing difficulty), and pulmonary edema
Chronic Health Effects: Chronic ingestion of iodides may produce iodism. Symptoms include skin rash, running nose, headache and irritation of mucous membranes. Some animal studies indicate mutagenic and reproductive effects.

Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
