Emergency Overview: Hydrofluoric acid may form upon contact with moisture, causing delayed, deep, slow healing, painful burns. Toxic if swallowed.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Ingestion, inhalation, skin, eyes.
Eye Contact: Causes burns to eyes. May cause blindness.
Skin Contact: Prolonged contact with skin causes delayed deep slow healing painful burns.
Inhalation: (As dust) causes burns to the respiratory tract.
Ingestion: If ingested, severe burns to the gastrointestinal tract will occur. Toxic if swallowed.
Acute Health Effects: Corrosive to eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Toxic if swallowed. Fluoride poisoning may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, coma, respiratory failure and cardiovascular collapse.
Chronic Health Effects: Prolonged exposure to hydrolysable fluorine compounds can cause deterioration of bone and tooth structure.

SECTION 4: First Aid Measures
Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Apply calcium gluconate jelly or water soluble calcium salts as antidote. Seek medical assistance.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
