Emergency Overview: Lithium salts are toxic to the central nervous system and on repeated ingestion may damage kidneys and act as a teratogen
Primary Routes of Exposure: Contact with skin and eyes. Inhalation of dust.
Eye Contact: Irritating to the eyes, causing redness and pain.
Skin Contact: Causes irritation of the skin. May cause redness, swelling and itching.
Inhalation: Inhalation of dust leads to irritation of the respiratory tract, soreness of the nose and throat, coughing and sneezing.
Ingestion: Ingestion may lead to dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weakness, and convulsions.
Acute Health Effects: Lithium salts are toxic to the central nervous system. Irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
Chronic Health Effects: Prolonged exposure to lithium salts may cause kidney damage. Prolonged exposure to hydrolyzable fluorine compounds can cause deterioration of bone and tooth structure.

Eye Exposure: Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure: Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
